Don’t EVER think it can’t happen to you.
My son was murdered when he opened the front door to our home.
Best city to live in Ohio awards.
Zilch violent crime.
My 9-year-old 4th grader opened our front door and was shot point-blank in the head.
I could have had a gun in each hand when it happened, and it wouldn’t have done anything. HE WOULD STILL BE DEAD. I froze. Time stopped.
I watched his head jerk backward, his eyes close, as he fell to the floor.
7:35 a.m., November 22, 2013, my new life of chaos, rage, anger, guilt, disconnection, hibernation and pain began.
People still tell me they can’t imagine what Ive been through.
It’s worse than hell.
You’re forced to adapt to the universe and figure out how to live again.
You’re forced to figure out how to get out of bed. How to pay bills. How to try to be a mom to your other kids. How to deal with anxiety attacks. How to deal with feeling incomplete. How to deal with flashbacks. How to deal with the feeling that your child has been erased in the world.
He was beautiful. Innocent. Goofy. Kind. Funny. Inquisitive. Caring.
Deserved to live more than just nine years.
I love him and I miss him so much.
