Nebraska has long required a purchase permit for handgun sales – meaning that all handgun buyers must pass a background check before purchase. However, it recently repealed its concealed carry permit requirement, now allowing the carry of concealed guns in public with no permit or safety training. Nebraska also enacted a preemption law, prohibiting localities from taking action to prevent gun violence.
