Everytown for Gun Safety Releases New Report on the Gun Safety Positions and Records of Potential VP Candidates, Concludes 12-Part “Demanding Women” Series
NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, released a new report on the impressive gun safety credentials of Joe Biden’s potential vice presidential candidates.
The report comes in the week before Biden is reportedly choosing his running mate, and marks the conclusion of “Demanding Women: Quarantine Conversations About Gun Violence”–– a 12-part virtual series of conversations with prominent women leaders who are reported vice presidential contenders: founder of Fair Fight Action Stacey Abrams, Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), Rep. Val Demings (D-FL), Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, former national security advisor Susan Rice, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“The fact that every single one of these vice presidential contenders is a gun sense champion is the latest proof that gun safety has gone from the third rail of American politics to one of the first things candidates want to talk about,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Thanks to our ‘Demanding Women’ series, voters got to hear the VP contenders discuss gun safety, and the big takeaway is that whoever Joe Biden picks will make this life-or-death issue a top priority.”
“Not only are all of Joe Biden’s vice presidential contenders deeply qualified for the job – they’re also all heroes to the gun safety movement,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “This November, Everytown and Moms Demand Action will proudly fight like hell to elect Joe Biden and whichever of these phenomenal women joins him on the ballot.”
“While Donald Trump has refused to take meaningful action on gun safety, more Americans have been killed by gun violence than were killed in the Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam wars––combined,” said Charlie Kelly, senior political advisor at Everytown for Gun Safety. “But there’s a change coming this November, up and down the ballot, and Joe Biden and one of these outstanding women is going to lead the way.”
