Authorities Report That Five People Were Shot and Killed, Including a 15-Month-Old Baby

POLK COUNTY, Texas – The Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to reports that five family members, including a 15-month-old baby, were shot and killed in a home in the Blanchard Community of Polk County.

Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that this appears to be at least the 197th mass shooting since January 2009 and at least the fifth in 2019. Everytown defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot and killed, excluding the shooter.

STATEMENT FROM HILARY WHITFIELD, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE TEXAS CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Every senseless act of gun violence is a tragedy, but I am particularly devastated that one of the five people who was shot and killed was just a baby. This is a heartbreaking reminder of the gun violence that cuts too many lives short in this country. We all must keep fighting to find common-sense solutions that will keep our families safe.”
