9.25.2017

Reports Indicate At Least Six People Shot and Injured and One Killed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today issued the following statement in response to reports that multiple shots were fired at Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch during a service this morning. While details are still unfolding, the Nashville Police have confirmed that at least six people were injured and one is dead, and that the alleged shooter is in custody.

STATEMENT FROM KATHLEEN WRIGHT, VOLUNTEER WITH THE TENNESSEE CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“My heart is breaking for the Antioch community this afternoon. My thoughts are with the entire Burnette Chapel Church of Christ congregation, and especially those who were shot, whose lives will never be the same.
“We should be able to worship wherever and whenever we choose, free from the threat of gun violence. Churches should be peaceful places where families gather to reflect. Sadly, today in America, no place is safe from the threat of gun violence. Although details are still unfolding, this is another reminder that we can and must do more to prevent senseless gun violence.”
