NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today criticized state lawmakers for passing HB 2208 out of the Civil Justice Committee. HB 2208 would allow any school board to appoint an employee of a school to carry guns in schools, further expanding a current law that already makes Tennessee one a small group of states that allow teachers to be armed.
STATEMENT FROM RACHEL KROMER, VOLUNTEER WITH THE TENNESSEE CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“Since the tragic school shooting in Florida, elected officials in other states have turned their attention to policies that would actually save lives. Unfortunately, here in Tennessee politicians continue to push their same old agenda of guns everywhere, for anyone, no questions asked. The dangers of making it even easier for teachers in Tennessee to be armed are quite clear, which is why educators and law enforcement oppose this bill. The General Assembly should reject this short-sighted policy now.”
