Rick Santorum Says Kids Should Take CPR Classes Instead of Push for Gun Laws — Sandy Hook School Shooting Survivor Responds

3.26.2018

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety released the following statement today from Sandy Hook School shooting survivor Erica Lafferty in response to comments by NRA A+ rated former Republican Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who said on CNN’s State of the Union today that instead of calling for gun laws, kids concerned about gun violence in their schools should take CPR classes.

STATEMENT FROM ERICA LAFFERTY, WHOSE MOTHER DAWN LAFFERTY HOCHSPRUNG, THE PRINCIPAL AT SANDY HOOK SCHOOL, DIED WHILE PROTECTING HER STUDENTS. ERICA IS A PROGRAMS MANAGER AT EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY AND MEMBER OF THE EVERYTOWN SURVIVOR NETWORK:

“Rick Santorum’s words are an insult to the kids of Parkland, my family and to the countless others who have had loved ones taken by gun violence. My mother was killed while protecting her students at Sandy Hook School. For anyone to suggest that the solution to gun violence is for kids to learn CPR is outrageous, and indicative of the NRA’s desire to do or say anything except strengthen America’s weak gun laws.”
