NRA “Dialing Down” Appearance at CPAC Amid National Outrage in the Wake of Parkland, Florida Mass Shooting

2.21.2018

The NRA’s chief executive Wayne LaPierre and national spokesperson Dana Loesch are reportedly speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which begins today, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at CPAC’s official schedule released this week.

In case you missed it, the NRA is “dialing down” its public appearance at CPAC following national outrage in the days following the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. Executive Vice President of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre and spokesperson Dana Loesch are both set to speak, despite not appearing on CPAC’s official schedule. Other high-profile NRA members, including Chris Loesch and David Clarke, are also scheduled to participate during the four-day conference hosted by the American Conservative Union.
The Guardian’s Lois Beckett writes:

“The NRA appears to be trying to ‘dial down’ a high-profile appearance by its leader Wayne LaPierre near Washington this week.

“LaPierre’s name is nowhere to be found on the official agenda for CPAC, the conservative conference which begins in Maryland on Wednesday. An NRA spokesman said the executive vice-president and CEO had not cancelled his speech, but that he did not know when he would be speaking.”

The schedule is available here.

One has to wonder: What is the NRA afraid of?
