Louisville, KY — Following presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s speech at the National Rifle Association’s Annual Meeting, Everytown for Gun Safety released the following statement from Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety:
“Today Donald Trump received the NRA’s endorsement and said he would not let them down when it comes to advancing their extremist agenda to put guns everywhere, for anyone, with no questions asked. The irony of someone who says he will repeal the protections that keep guns out of our children’s schools on the first day of his presidency receiving the gun lobby’s endorsement at an event where guns were not allowed will not be lost on the American people, a strong majority of whom support strengthening gun laws.
“The NRA leadership and lobbyists and the politicians who kowtow to them don’t speak for us — we represent the vast majority of Americans, including gun owners and NRA members, who support the Second Amendment and know that with that right comes a responsibility to keep guns out of dangerous hands. We are here in Louisville because we are everywhere — Moms, gun violence survivors and Americans of all kinds who are mobilizing in every statehouse and corporate boardroom to fight back against the NRA’s dangerous vision for America. We are putting political leaders on notice — if they want our support, they must buck the extremist NRA agenda and join our fight to Make America Safe Again.”
