NEW YORK — The New York chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement after a pregnant woman was shot twice in the head in Brownsville on Sunday afternoon. According to news reports, 19-year-old Tytianna Sparks, who is currently five-months pregnant, was standing on a Brooklyn street when an unidentified man approached and shot her before running off.

STATEMENT FROM NICOLE LESSER, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER WITH THE NEW YORK CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“This tragic shooting once again reminds us of how much of a threat gun violence is to the lives of women and their families in America. We are devastated that a young woman was a victim of such a heinous crime. Our thoughts are with Tytianna Sparks and her family, and we hope she is able to make a full recovery. This disturbing incident should serve as a wake-up call to our city, that we need to work together to make all neighborhoods in New York safe, and not just some.”
