CONCORD, N.H. – The New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, applauded the New Hampshire House of Representatives for advancing HB 564, legislation that would keep guns out of K-12 schools in the state. It now heads to the New Hampshire Senate.
“Guns don’t belong in our children’s schools. It’s as simple as that,” said Deirdre Reynolds, a volunteer leader with the New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “It’s long past time for us to catch up to the majority of states who have recognized that guns in schools are a serious threat to the safety of our students, educators, school districts, and police departments. We applaud the House for taking this step in the right direction and urge the Senate to swiftly act to keep guns out of New Hampshire schools.”
Currently, New Hampshire is one of only two states in the country that doesn’t have a law that prohibits gun possession in schools, and state law is ambiguous on whether schools can pass regulations to keep their staff and students safe by prohibiting firearms if they wish to. This bill would create a clear prohibition to keep firearms out of the places that children learn and grow.
