The New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action, part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement in response to the New Hampshire House of Representatives concurring with the Senate on a bill that would prohibit state authorities from partnering with federal authorities to enforce many of the federal gun laws and regulations that keep New Hampshire communities safe. The bill will now be sent to Governor Chris Sununu’s desk.
“The advancement of this bill is a confirmation of what we’ve always known: that Republican lawmakers would rather pass bills that further the gun lobby’s guns everywhere agenda than focus on policies that would make our state safer,” said Deidre Reynolds, a volunteer with the New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action. “This bill would inhibit state law enforcement officials’ ability to protect our communities and undo years of effort to combat the gun violence crisis in New Hampshire. We urge Governor Sununu to veto this dangerous legislation and stand up for our safety.”
In an average year in New Hampshire, 143 people die by guns and 117 people are wounded. Gun violence costs New Hampshire $933.9 million each year, of which $17.6 million is paid by taxpayers. More information on gun violence in New Hampshire is available here.
