Ad Campaign Marks Everytown Victory Fund’s First Congressional Ad Spend of the 2020 Election Cycle

In February, Everytown Announced Gun Sense Majority: Texas, an Unprecedented $8 Million Effort to Elect Gun Sense Candidates Up and Down the Ballot

AUSTIN — Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund (“Everytown Victory Fund”) launched a $250,000 digital ad campaign with five ads in congressional districts held by gun lobby allies, which highlight Congressman Dan Crenshaw (TX-02), Congressman Mike McCaul (TX-10), Congressman Chip Roy (TX-21), Career Politician Beth Van Duyne (running in TX-24), and Congressman John Carter (TX-31)’s refusal to take action on gun safety. The ads represent Everytown Victory Fund’s first major congressional ad spend of the 2020 election cycle, following the announcement of Gun Sense Majority: Texas, an $8 million effort to elect gun sense candidates up and down the ballot in the Lone Star state.

“Texans are deeply concerned about the safety of their communities, and there’s no question they want action on gun safety,” said Charlie Kelly, senior political advisor for Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund. “Lawmakers’ refusal to address the public health crisis of gun violence is a major election liability. We’re going to fight hard to flip these districts because Texans are tired of inaction on gun safety, and deserve to be represented by people who will do something about it.”

“Even before the coronavirus pandemic, our representatives in Congress looked the other way and ignored our safety,” said Gaby Diaz, a volunteer with the Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety. “More than 3,000 Texans die from gun violence every year, but our congressional Representatives have sided with the gun lobby over us, refusing to support common-sense gun laws that would keep us safe. This year, we’ll do everything in our power to elect gun sense champions in every part of Texas — because our communities can’t afford more inaction.”

“Ignored Our Safety” digital ads will target:

Last week, Everytown and Moms Demand Action, part of Everytown, released the first round of more than 700 candidates selected for the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction program from 36 states, including Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (D-TX-07), Rep. Collin Allred (D-TX-32), and U.S. Senate candidate MJ Hegar in Texas.

In February, Everytown announced “Gun Sense Majority: Texas” — an unprecedented financial and grassroots effort aimed at flipping the State House to a gun sense majority, defending recently elected Texas gun sense champions in the U.S. House, flipping key congressional seats in the suburbs, and growing and educating the voting electorate in order to make Texas even more competitive at the statewide level.
