New Polling Shows Gun Violence is Important Issue When Votingto Majority of Pennsylvania Voters

HARRISBURG — Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund announced a more than $6.1 million paid media campaign in Pennsylvania for the 2024 elections. Digital ads and direct mailers will run across targeted state legislative battleground districts and highlight Pennsylvania MAGA Republicans’ opposition to common-sense gun safety laws and the extreme guns everywhere agenda they will push in Harrisburg.

“Our polling confirms that the overwhelming majority of Pennsylvania voters are looking for candidates who will fight to keep our schools and our families safe from gun violence,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is making sure voters know that Pennsylvania communities would be at risk if MAGA Republicans have total control of Harrisburg.”

As a part of today’s announcement, Everytown released a new poll in Pennsylvania showing the power of gun safety for voters. A full memo is available here, and key findings include:

  • A candidate’s position on guns is also overwhelmingly important to Pennsylvania voters, and majorities of voters in each battleground region indicate it is very important in deciding who to vote for in the election for Pennsylvania House.
  • There is broad-based, near-universal support for a range of gun safety policies, especially safe storage requirements, universal background checks, and prohibiting domestic abusers from possessing guns.
  • Across all regions, the most effective gun safety messages emphasize how MAGA Republicans’ extreme agenda on gun policies threaten public safety, putting communities, women, police, and children at risk.

Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund is also announcing new endorsements for candidates in key battleground legislative seats:

  • Anand Patel, State Representative, District 18
  • Arvind Venkat, State Representative, District 30
  • Mandy Steele, State Representative, District 33
  • Anna Thomas, State Representative, District 137
  • Anna Payne, State Representative, District 142
  • Brian Munroe, State Representative, District 144
  • Elizabeth Moro, State Representative, District 160

Earlier this year, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced endorsements of volunteers running for Pennsylvania legislature:

  • Patty Kim, State Senate, District 15
  • Bill Petulla, State Representative, District 28
  • Hadley Haas, State Representative, District 44
  • Nick Jacobson, State Representative, District 85
  • Sara Agerton, State Representative, District 88

In July, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund announced a $45 million electoral program and the launch of a new grassroots voter contact program to help elect gun sense candidates and defeat gun extremists up and down the ballot in key swing districts and states. Everytown’s efforts will focus on young voters on college campuses, voters of color, and suburban women in Arizona, California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Last month, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced a record $7.5 million investment to train and elect Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers, including many running in key races across the country.
