Nebraska Moms Applaud Senate Filibuster of Dangerous Bill That Puts Nebraska Communities at Risk

LINCOLN, NE — Volunteers with the Nebraska chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today applauded the Senate’s filibuster of LB 289, a bill that would revoke the ability of Nebraska cities and villages to pass common-sense public safety measures designed to keep communities safe.

The bill would create special rules for the gun lobby, allowing groups like the NRA to sue Nebraska cities and communities over life-saving local firearms ordinances and collect outrageous legal fees from taxpayers. Nebraska Moms met with more than forty senate offices, sent more than two hundred emails, and drove hundreds of calls to lawmakers to encourage opposition to LB 289.

“Nebraska moms applaud today’s filibuster lead by Senator Ernie Chambers and many of his fearless Senate colleagues. Our elected officials are put in office to represent Nebraskans – not the gun lobby. Today, many of them did their job! This legislation would make it harder for Nebraska mayors and law enforcement to keep communities safe, while making it easier for the gun lobby to push a dangerous agenda and line their pockets at the same time. Nebraskans trust our mayors and police chiefs to do their jobs. The gun lobby should not have the power to intimidate them. We are proud to see lawmakers listening to the hundreds of Nebraska voters who have visited, called, and written in opposition to this dangerous and costly legislation.”
