Moms Demand Action Responds to Ad Attacking Sen. Bollier for Supporting Life-Saving Legislation

9.25.2020

The Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statements today in response to an ad calling Kansas Senator and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Barbara Bollier “extreme” for introducing red flag legislation, which has been proven to stop mass shootings and gun suicides.

“The only thing extreme in Sen. Bollier’s race is the opposition misleading voters about common-sense gun safety,” said Amanda Winch, a volunteer with the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Red flag laws are saving lives in states across the country and are supported by the vast majority of Americans – Republicans and Democrats alike. The people of Kansas know the consequences of gun violence and won’t be fooled by attacks on Sen. Bollier’s efforts to fight it.”

Perpetrators of mass shootings and school shootings often display warning signs before committing violent acts. Red flag laws, also known as extreme risk laws, allow law enforcement officers to act on such warning signs by petitioning a court to temporarily remove guns from dangerous situations. Interventions in states with red flag laws have already prevented potential tragedies. Red flag laws can also be used to prevent gun suicides.

Sen. Barabara Bollier has received the Gun Sense Candidate Distinction and has been endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety for her commitment to fighting for common-sense gun safety in Congress.
