9.6.2019

Bailey Reeves is at Least the 17th Trans Person Killed Nationwide This Year; at Least 14 Have Been Killed With A Gun

BALTIMORE, Md. — The Maryland chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to the death of a transgender teen in Baltimore on Monday. According to reports, Bailey Reeves was shot and killed on Labor Day after leaving a party in the Northeast Baltimore neighborhood.

“Our hearts go out to Bailey’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said Danielle Veith, a volunteer with the Maryland chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We know gun violence hits marginalized communities harder than others, and it’s past time we do more to prevent this from happening. We’ll continue to fight for common-sense solutions because no one should have to die like this.”

Bailey Reeves, just 17 years old, is the youngest trans person to die so far in 2019. The vast majority of known trans people killed this year have been Black women killed with a gun.
