Georgia Efforts Built On Everytown’s Largest Ever Electoral Program in 2020 — Electing Gun Sense Candidates Up and Down the Ballot and Redrawing the Political Map for Gun Safety

NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund (“Everytown”) and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, today declared a major victory as Georgia voters rejected NRA-backed Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Sen. David Perdue and elected Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate.

Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made hundreds of thousands of calls and texts to support gun sense candidates in Georgia this election cycle. Everytown executed its largest political effort ever, spending tens of millions of dollars to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot. Throughout the cycle, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 3.7 million calls and texts encouraging Americans to vote in 2020, and Students Demand Action volunteers registered more than 100,000 voters nationwide.

“Jon Ossoff and Rev. Warnock’s victory over two staunch NRA allies has created a gun sense majority in the U.S. Senate and ushered in a new era for gun safety in Congress,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “The fact that Georgia will be represented by two gun-sense senators expands the political map for gun safety and serves as further proof that voters are fed up with the NRA’s extreme agenda.”

“This election, Georgians made it clear that they won’t stand for gun lobby-backed senators like Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue anymore,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “The U.S. Senate now has a gun sense majority, and a mandate to support common-sense gun laws that will save lives in Georgia and across the country. Moms Demand Action volunteers worked day-in and day-out to support Ossoff and Warnock, and we’ll cheer them on as they fight for gun safety in the U.S. Senate.”

“I couldn’t be more proud to have Jon Ossoff and Rev. Warnock representing me and my family in Washington,” said Courtney Spriggs, volunteer with the Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action. “They both have proved time and time again that they will fight for our families and our communities. We’re so grateful that Georgia will have two new senators who aren’t beholden to the gun lobby and special interests.”

Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts and Everytown surrogates kicked off phone banks during the general election and runoff to support Ossoff and Warnock.
