ATLANTA — The Georgia chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, today called on Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, Congressman Doug Collins, Governor Brian Kemp, Karen Handel, and Dr. Rich McCormick to condemn Marjorie Taylor Greene as new footage emerged of Greene making derisive and misogynist comments regarding gun safety advocates with Moms Demand Action and in support of right-wing militias.
“Moms and women like me have been going toe to toe with gun lobbyists and gun extremists like Taylor Greene for years, and we’ve wiped the floor with them,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Politicians who stand with the gun lobby are out of touch with mainstream America, and on the wrong side of history.”
“More than 1,500 Georgians die every year from gun violence, but Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks the right thing to do is to crudely mock and denigrate the people who are trying to do something about it,” said Lauren Taylor, a volunteer with North Metro Atlanta Students Demand Action. “Comments like these have no place in our country, and should have no place in the Republican Party – not that we’ve heard anything from Sens. Loeffler and Perdue, Rep. Collins, Gov. Kemp, Karen Handel, or Dr. McCormick to that effect.”
“Moms Demand Action volunteers fight day-in, day-out for common-sense policies that will combat Georgia’s gun violence epidemic,” said Courtney Spriggs, a volunteer with the Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Shame on Marjorie Taylor Greene for demeaning our work, and shame on Sens. Loeffler and Perdue, Rep. Collins, Gov. Kemp, Karen Handel, Dr. McCormick, and other Republicans for turning a blind eye to her misogyny, derision, and extremism.”
According to Media Matters for America, Greene has “expressed support for QAnon, the violence-linked conspiracy theory that the FBI has labeled a potential domestic terror threat. She has also pushed conspiracy theories about the 9/11 attacks, the killing of Democratic staffer Seth Rich, and Pizzagate, among others.” After she won her primary, President Donald Trump tweeted: “Congratulations to future Republican Star Marjorie Taylor Greene on a big Congressional primary win in Georgia against a very tough and smart opponent. Marjorie is strong on everything and never gives up – a real WINNER!”
