MIAMI — The Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to the death of a transgender woman in Miami. According to reports, Kiki Fantroy was shot and killed just a few minutes from her home last Wednesday. This is the eighth homicide of a trans woman in Florida since 2017, seven of which were with a gun.

“Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Kiki during this difficult time,” said Gay Valimont, a volunteer with the Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “The gun violence in this country is tearing our communities apart, especially for those so often marginalized and disproportionately affected by gun violence. We vow to honor Kiki’s memory with action.”
