Everytown, Utah Moms Applaud Legislature for Defeating Dangerous Permitless Carry Gun Bill

3.11.2016

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement applauding the Utah legislature for defeating Senate Bill 97, which would have endangered public safety by dismantling Utah’s concealed carry permitting system and enabling individuals to carry hidden, loaded firearms in public with absolutely no training, no criminal history check and no permit.

STATEMENT FROM AUSIA HAMBLIN, A VOLUNTEER WITH THE UTAH CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Utah moms applaud the legislature for defeating Senate Bill 97, which would have put our families and communities at risk by dismantling our state’s current permitting system and instead allowing untrained, unpermitted individuals to carry hidden, loaded guns on our streets and around our neighborhoods. This marks an important victory for public safety in Utah, and I’m proud that our elected leaders refused to join the very short list of states that have abandoned this core public safety measure. Moms across Utah will continue to advocate for safer gun laws and fight against bills that endanger public safety because our families lives’ depend on it.”
