Everytown, Oklahoma Moms Demand Action Respond to House Committee Vote Moving Forward Hb 2323, a Dangerous Permitless Carry in Vehicles Bill

2.15.2017

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oklahoma chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement today in reaction to the House Public Safety Committee vote passing HB 2323 to a full House vote. The legislation would allow people – including some violent criminals and people with no firearm safety training – to carry loaded handguns in vehicles without a permit.

STATEMENT FROM DONNA STEWARD, VOLUNTEER WITH THE OKLAHOMA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA AND FORMER GUN STORE OWNER:

“This vote today is one more step towards making Oklahomans less safe. HB 2323 would allow people who have no permit and who have no safety training to transport loaded handguns in their cars, posing a danger to all of us, but particularly to our state’s law enforcement officers. I used to own a gun store and am fully supportive of the Second Amendment. But legislation like this will put public safety at risk in our state. Oklahomans, including gun owners like myself, need to stand up for our culture of responsible gun ownership.”
