NEW YORK – The New York chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety released the following statement today in response to a shooting at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. While details are still developing, initial reports indicate that a doctor shot at least six people, including three other doctors, and that at least one person was killed. The suspect is reportedly dead after shooting himself.

STATEMENT FROM SONNI MUN, VOLUNTEER, NEW YORK CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“More than 90 Americans are shot and killed every day in America, and hundreds more are injured – and today that reality played out in the corridors of a hospital in a community that already suffers too much gun violence. My heart goes out to the whole Bronx-Lebanon community, their families and friends. As a physician myself, I find it unconscionable that a dangerous person would gun people down in a hospital – a place of healing – and particularly devastating to see that doctors and caregivers were the targets. While we do not yet know much about the man who committed this crime or how he got his gun, it’s clear that we must do more to keep guns out of the hands of people with dangerous intentions. I will never stop fighting until we end the everyday gun violence that claims more than 30,000 American lives each year.”
