Everytown for Gun Safety Statement on President Trump’s Meeting With Bipartisan Members of Congress to Discuss Action on Gun Safety Measures

During Today’s Meeting, President Trump Expressed Support for Expanding Criminal Background Checks to Cover All Commercial Gun Sales, Closing the ‘Boyfriend Loophole,’ Raising the Legal Age to Buy Semi-Automatic Rifles and Shotguns; Passing the Fix NICS Act; and Prohibiting Bump Stocks

President Trump Also Pushed Back Against Combining Fix NICS and Concealed Carry Reciprocity, Saying “You’ll Never Get This Passed if You Add Concealed Carry to This”

WASHINGTON – Everytown for Gun Safety released the following statement today after President Trump’s meeting with a group of bipartisan members of Congress in the wake of the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida.

STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:

“The president today called for sweeping gun violence reform that would meet the moment of public sentiment after the tragedy in Parkland. He called for changes that a majority of Americans support. But words alone are not enough. Now is the time for the President to bring together all Americans — including Congressional Republicans, who have too often sided with the NRA over public safety — to get this done. American lives are on the line.”
