Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Launches $35,000 in Digital Ads Focused on Background Checks and Red Flag Policies

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund today announced it has launched $35,000 in digital advertisements in three Minnesota newspapers in support of gun safety bills in the Minnesota legislature. After advancing through two committees as standalone bills, provisions that would strengthen criminal background checks on gun sales and create a Red Flag law are now included in omnibus public safety legislation pending in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

“The vast majority of Minnesotans want common-sense gun laws — and so do the law enforcement leaders charged with keeping their communities safe,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “As this year’s legislative session heads into the home stretch, Everytown is helping voters send a message to lawmakers: It’s time to step up and take action to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands.”

The push includes advertising on the websites of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the St. Cloud Times.

Polling conducted in 2018 by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune found that nine in 10 Minnesotans support criminal background checks on all gun sales. Additional polling last year found 87 percent of Minnesotans support the concept of Red Flag laws.
