ST. LOUIS, MO — Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced its endorsement of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Co-Chair Tishaura Jones for re-election in St. Louis, Missouri.
“City leaders like Mayor Jones are on the frontlines of America’s gun violence epidemic, and at the forefront of developing common-sense measures to prevent gun violence,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Mayor Jones has a long track record of doing everything in her power to keep St. Louis safe, and we’re proud to support her re-election.”
“Mayor Tishaura Jones is working day in and day out to make St. Louis safer. She’s fighting extremist laws, investing in holistic solutions, and putting the entire community first,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “We need to keep bold leaders like Mayor Jones in office, which is why I’m so proud to endorse her re-election today.”
A member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns since her election in 2021, Mayor Jones led the way nationwide by being one of the first mayors in the country to announce her intention to use American Rescue Plan funding to address local gun violence. She has been outspoken about dangerous state laws, like the Second Amendment Preservation Act, that limit the ability of cities like St. Louis to fight gun crime.
In 2022, Mayor Jones created an Office of Violence Prevention, which coordinates public safety resources and community violence intervention programs to make St. Louis neighborhoods safer. Since Mayor Jones took office, St. Louis has experienced a dramatic decrease in homicides and a 50 percent decrease in shootings amongst young people.
