Everytown For Gun Safety Action Fund Announces New U.S. House and Senate Endorsements

Everytown Today Endorsed U.S. House and Senate Candidates Who Have Championed Gun Safety 

Polling Shows Americans’ Support for Gun Safety Measures Has Surged Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

NEW YORK – Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund endorsed dozens of candidates for the U.S. House and Senate who have championed gun safety. Each of these candidates received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction, a prerequisite for being considered for endorsement. 
Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund plan to spend at least $60 million on the 2020 elections — double what they spent during the 2018 elections, and more than any gun safety opponent, including the NRA, reported spending on the 2016 elections. 

“In 2018, Everytown went all-out to help elect a gun sense majority to the U.S. House, and that majority made gun safety one of their top priorities from Day One,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “In this time of unprecedented crisis, more voters than ever are demanding action on gun safety, and we’ll do everything in our power to help them send an even bigger gun sense majority to the House on Election Day.”

“Gun safety went from a third rail issue to a deciding factor in the 2018 election cycle,” said Charlie Kelly, senior political advisor to Everytown for Gun Safety. “The Democratic-led U.S. House took up gun safety immediately and made incredible gains for this movement. Now, our sights are set on sending more gun sense champions to the U.S. House and flipping the Senate to a gun sense majority.” 

“Flipping the U.S. House to a gun sense majority was a landmark for our movement, and we cheered as they took up bills that Moms Demand Action volunteers have supported for years,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “As we head into the 2020 election, we’re doubling down to keep our gun sense champions in office so they can keep making progress.” 

Polling released last month demonstrates the surging intensity of voters’ support for common-sense gun safety measures during the coronavirus pandemic, with a majority of Americans considering background checks on all gun sales “more important” now than before the pandemic began.

Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund spent $30 million during the 2018 midterms, outspending the NRA for the first time. These investments and support helped flip the U.S. House to a gun sense majority. Since then, the U.S. House has passed landmark gun safety legislation, including H.R. 8, which would require background checks on all gun sales, and H.R. 1112, which would address the “Charleston loophole.”
