Delaware Moms Demand Action, Everytown Applaud the House for Unanimously Advancing Life-Saving Red Flag Legislation

6.7.2018

Red Flag Law Would Empower Family and Law Enforcement to Petition Courts to Temporarily Suspend a Person’s Access to Firearms If They Pose a Risk to Self or Others

Red Flag Law Could Help Prevent Firearm Suicides and Mass Shootings

DOVER, Del.– The Delaware chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement applauding the Delaware House of Representatives for advancing House Bill 222. This Red Flag bill would empower families and law enforcement to seek a Lethal Violence Protection Order (LVPO), a court order that would temporarily restrict a person’s access to firearms when they pose a risk of using them to harm themselves or others. Family members and law enforcement are often the first people to recognize warning signs that indicate someone might be a danger to themselves or others.

STATEMENT FROM SARAH STOWENS, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE DELAWARE CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“We are grateful to House lawmakers for passing the first-ever piece of Red Flag legislation in our state. This lifesaving bill will create a Lethal Violence Protection Order that will help protect Delaware families. We urge the state senate to immediately pass House Bill 222 and send it to Governor Carney’s desk so that Delaware can continue to lead the way on enacting common-sense gun laws.”
