ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maryland chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statements in remembrance of the one-year mark of the mass shooting at the Capital Gazette building, where five people were shot and killed and two others were wounded.
“I am profoundly grateful for the many memorials and remembrances that have been bestowed upon John and his colleagues over the last 12 months,” said Jan McNamara, a volunteer with Maryland Moms Demand Action, whose brother-in-law, John McNamara, was shot and killed in the Capital Gazette shooting last year. “An even better way to honor them, and the 100 Americans who die each day from gun violence, is to work together to change current laws and practices so that other lives are not tragically and needlessly lost.”
“Today is a sad reminder of the tragedy at the Capital Gazette newsroom and in our community,” said Alexandra Matiella Novak, Annapolis resident and a volunteer with Maryland Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America. “We will continue to remember the lives cut short that day and the survivors who were forever changed by that shooting. We vow to honor their memories with action.”
