Reports of San Francisco Shooting Just Hours After Shooting During a Congressional Baseball Practice in Alexandria, Virginia

SAN FRANCISCO – The California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, responded to a shooting this morning at a UPS facility in the Potrero Hill area of San Francisco. The news of the shooting came just hours after reports of a shooting at a Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

While details are still unfolding, reports indicate that at least three people were shot and killed, and two were shot and injured. The shooter is also reportedly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

STATEMENT FROM RICHARD MARTINEZ, A MEMBER OF THE EVERYTOWN SURVIVOR NETWORK AND SENIOR ASSOCIATE FOR EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY, WHOSE SON CHRISTOPHER ROSS MICHAELS-MARTINEZ WAS SHOT AND KILLED IN THE MAY 2014 SHOOTING IN ISLA VISTA:

“My son, Chris, was shot and killed in Isla Vista and we miss him more than I can say. The day Chris was killed, I knew my life would never be the same. Today, both coasts awoke to the tragic news of a shooting where more innocent lives have been forever changed and my heart is with the victims and their families. Since Chris died, the only thing that’s important to me is the work I do to reduce gun violence, to make sure other families don’t experience our loss. Together, we can do more to save lives.”

STATEMENT FROM CATHERINE STEFANI, VOLUNTEER WITH THE CALIFORNIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:

“This morning I am horrified and saddened by the news that my community has been affected by gun violence. Unfortunately, the impact of gun violence is being felt across our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families and we are grateful for the swift work of our first responders. We must not give up hope for a world where there is not another day like today.”
