Virginia Moms Applaud Senate Rejection of Dangerous Guns in Schools Bill

2.2.2015

Richmond, VA – Today, the Virginia State Senate rejected Senate Bill 1132, a dangerous bill that would have allowed concealed handgun permit holders to carry guns into public and private K-12 schools outside of normal school hours.

In response, Gena Reeder, a volunteer with the Virginia Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, released the statement below:

“It’s simple: guns have no place in Virginia’s schools, regardless of the time of day. Today, the Virginia Senate stood on the side of safety for our children by rejecting SB 1132. This dangerous bill would have compromised what our children’s schools should be – safe havens where they go to learn and thrive, even when it’s outside of normal school hours. It’s time we focus on keeping guns out of dangerous hands in the first place and fostering a safe learning environment for our students.”
