North Carolina Moms Demand Action Respond to Senator Burr Suggestion That Gun Owners Put a “Bullseye” on Clinton

10.31.2016

RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to audio unearthed this afternoon in which North Carolina Senator Richard Burr suggested that gun owners may want to put “a bulls eye” on Hillary Clinton.

“Senator Burr clearly doesn’t get what North Carolinians know: gun safety isn’t about ‘taking our guns away,’ it’s about protecting our kids,” said Christy Clark, a volunteer with the North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Just like Secretary Clinton has said many times before, gun owners know that Second Amendment rights go hand in hand with common-sense gun laws like a background check on every gun sale. Senator Burr’s inciting and violent language – much like what Donald Trump has said before – is unacceptable and simply not how we talk to people in the Carolinas. These kinds of threats are completely out of step with our state’s values and long history of responsible gun ownership.”

This isn’t the first time candidates endorsed by the gun lobby have hinted at violence against Secretary Clinton or joked about gun violence, which kills more than 90 Americans every day and injures hundreds more. Donald Trump has said he could “stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and [not] lose voters.” He followed up that remark with yet another shocker – calling on “Second Amendment people” to stop Hillary and later suggested “taking [the secret service’s] guns away” and seeing what happens to Hillary Clinton.
