Moms Demand Action Statements On Shooting At Florida State University

11.20.2014

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America released the following statements in response to a shooting at Florida State University where it is being reported that three people were shot in the campus library early Thursday morning.  Everytown and Moms Demand Action also updated its list of school shootings

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Moms and parents across the country are waking up today to the terrible news of another school shooting at Florida State University.   My thoughts and prayers are with those affected and their families.  As the parent of a college student, I know how hard it is to send your child to college –you want to imagine them studying in the library, not crouching in the stacks to hide from a gunman, as we know the students at FSU did last night.  Events like this should be a call to action for our political leaders to address the gun violence that has resulted in nearly 100 school shootings since the Sandy Hook tragedy.  That’s why Moms Demand Action was started and that’s why we’ll keep fighting for common-sense public safety measures that can help prevent tragedies like this one and the gun violence that kills 86 Americans every day.”

STATEMENT FROM CHRYL ANDERSON, VOLUNTEER, FLORIDA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Today we are keeping Florida State University students, faculty and parents in our hearts. College should be a safe place of learning, not a place where our children live in fear of a gunman.  Florida Moms refuse to let shootings like the one at FSU become the new normal in our communities and across our country – and we’ll keep working hard to fix the lax gun laws that put our children in danger.”
