Everytown Statement On Election Loss Of U.S. Senator Mark Pryor Of Arkansas

11.5.2014

Everytown for Gun Safety released the below statement today from President John Feinblatt on the election loss of U.S. Senator Mark Pryor of Arkansas. Last year, Senator Pryor voted against the Manchin-Toomey amendment to expand background checks to all gun sales.

“Senator Pryor has learned the hard way that courting the gun lobby doesn’t always buy its support. Even though Senator Pryor voted in lockstep with the NRA to oppose background checks, they spent more than $2.9 million this cycle to oppose his re-election. When Senator Pryor voted against background checks, he claimed he ‘listens to Arkansas’, despite the84 percent of Arkansans who support background checks. The message from Arkansas tonight is loud and clear – with friends like the NRA, who needs enemies?”
