Albuquerque, N.M. – The New Mexico chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown, today released the following statement in response to a reported domestic violence-related mass shooting that took place last night in a Roswell home. The alleged gunman reportedly shot and killed five people, including his wife, one teenager and three younger children.

This is the 10th mass shooting in 2016 and the 151st mass shooting since 2009, when Everytown began tracking shootings in which four or more people are killed. Overnight at a gay nightclub in Orlando, at least 50 people were killed and more than 50 others were injured – making it the largest and deadliest mass shooting in American history.

STATEMENT FROM CHERYL HAASE, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE NEW MEXICO CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:

“Our hearts are still reeling with the news coming from Orlando as we learn about yet another senseless tragedy right here in New Mexico. While the details are still unfolding here at home, my heart goes out to the families that are forever changed in the midst of the senseless gun violence that surrounds us. We cannot accept this as the new normal in America. This horrific act of violence here in New Mexico and in Orlando reminds us that we must stand up and take action to help reduce gun violence in America.”
