TOPEKA, Kan. – Volunteers with the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today testified before the Kansas Senate’s Federal and State Affairs Committee, joining students and other concerned citizens to support SB 53, legislation that would prevent college and universities from being forced to either allow hidden, loaded handguns inside campus buildings, or provide expensive security measures at every building entrance.
As noted in an Associated Press story published today, there has been widespread concern among faculty and staff members about the prospect of guns on campus. Earlier this week, the editorial board of the Kansas City Star urged legislators to “heed the guidance of universities that don’t want concealed handguns on their campuses.” More information on guns on campus in Kansas is available here.

“Kansas Moms Demand Action stands united with the faculty members, students and staff who support this legislation. Unless lawmakers pass SB 53, Kansas colleges will effectively be forced to allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns inside campus buildings. Our elected leaders should support SB 53 because the safety of our children and communities is on the line.”
