Colorado Moms Demand Action, Everytown, Criticize Senate Vote That Would Allow People to Carry Hidden, Loaded Handguns in Public Without a Permit

3.23.2017

DENVER –The Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the below statement criticizing Colorado senators yesterday for voting in favor of Senate Bill 116, a bill that would allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public without a permit or any handgun safety training. Volunteers with the Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action and gun violence survivors joined with other gun violence prevention advocates to testify against this reckless bill that would undermine Colorado’s public safety last month at the Senate State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee. The bill now moves to the House.

STATEMENT FROM ANNETTE MOORE, VOLUNTEER WITH THE COLORADO CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“The Senate voted yesterday to put the interests of the gun lobby over the safety of Coloradans. We urge their colleagues in the House to oppose this reckless proposal. We respect the Second Amendment and believe that with rights come with responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is ensuring basic core public safety standards are upheld when deciding who should be legally allowed to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public. This bill undermines Colorado’s strong, successful gun laws and is part of the NRA leadership’s extreme agenda to put more guns in more places, with no questions asked. Our volunteers will continue to fight tooth and nail against this reckless proposal.”
